As someone who is not Jewish and pretty far-left, I've been taken aback at some of the progressive responses to recent events. Some leftists spew Hamas slogans. Yet more Jews were murdered on 10/7 than on Kristallnach, as one NYT op-ed pointed out. Hamas is a terrorist organization. Yes, Gaza is essentially under the foot of apartheid, and Israel must reform how it treats Palestinians and work towards two states. That doesn't mean we shouldn't mourn the Jewish victims of 10/7 or that Israel doesn't have the right to defend itself (albeit perhaps in a way that follows the rules of war).
