I spent a lot of time in Montreal from the 1990s through about 2011 and so this is sad to hear. I was even there on the weekend of the secession vote in 1995 and saw it narrowly fail. Tribalism is the 21st century's curse, however. That said, I often wondered if Quebec were simply too distinct to remain in Canada long-term. But when I thought that, I imagined more of a leftish New France than a right wing fascist state...
