I tend to think there’s a certain inevitability to the decline and fall of the United States; just how bad -- and how facsist -- it will be is currently unknown. This is a well-written and thoughtful piece that evokes the sadness I feel when I look forward a few years. But it also evokes visits to department stores as a child, walking swiftly through the perfume department to avoid malodorous fumes.
