I think it's possible to go a bit too far here. Ask the Uyghurs. I'm not even mad about China's COVID policies -- I live in the US, and COVID is running wild and making the lives of vulnerable (and less vulnerable!) people very tenuous. But the Uyghurs have been through some serious oppression at the hands of the (racist) Han Chinese authorities. (And yes, I realize there are tankies who will say, "there's nothing going on in Xinjiang and it's all imperialist propaganda!" but that's also some nonsense).
