Rather than illusions, Buddhists can argue that thoughts are anicca, impermanent. Many thoughts come and go; you are not every fleeting thought that passes through your head. The mind can generate contradictory thoughts, too. The illusion comes in thinking anything is permanent or everlasting, not that all thoughts are illusory.
