The confounding issue is that more petit bourgeois white people (small and medium business owners, doctors, lawyers) voted for Trump than did poor or flailing middle-class white people. Most of the 1/6 insurrectionists flew in to town -- a few on private jets -- from all over the country. Stayed at nice hotels in DC. These weren't economically deprived or desperate people. They were racist, theocratic ethno-nationalists, given an opening to express their beliefs by their Fuhrer's rhetoric. There's far more than economic deprivation afoot here.
