This solution assumes that economic anxiety was the cause. But that’s been debunked; racism was and is clearly the driver of the Trumpist movement. If anything, we should employ a stick and a carrot: (1) Show them what “cutting government spending" looks like by generally rebalancing state funding of the federal budget. This way, blue states that currently overpay will not do that. That’s the stick. Spend the money in blue states. (2) Pass universal policies like Medicare for All that they will be truly loathe to give up down the road. That’s the carrot.

Germany and Japan were both deeply humiliated in a way Trump losing the election won’t do. We need to play harder ball, not softer.
