Thought-provoking for sure. But realistic? We live in capitalism, and this might be a case of 'hate the game, not the player.' As we age, this "get a job" mentality starts to fall apart. Financializing your life -- creating an endowment of investments -- is just about the only way to escape wage slavery as it exists today. I wrote a piece about how the financial independence movement can be a progressive and even anti-capitalist action (though not without its ironies). For most, investment in 401k and investment accounts is the only reasonable path to an end of life that's not severely impoverished. Add in disabilities and the "get a job" ethos really falls apart.
